The Punishment of Benjamin

20 All the Israelites^[a] went out, from Dan to Beersheba, including the land of Gilead, and they gathered as one body^[b] to Yahweh at Mizpah. ² And the leaders of all the people, all the tribes of Israel, presented themselves in the assembly of the people of God, four hundred thousand sword-bearing infantry. ³ (The descendants^[c] of Benjamin heard that the Israelites^[d] had gone up to Mizpah.) And the Israelites^[e] said, “Tell us, how did this evil act occur?”
